Summary
You will provide comprehensive occupational health services to protect and maintain employee well-being, including evaluating and managing work-related injuries, conducting physical examinations, and performing health surveillance and diagnostic testing. You will also coordinate employee case management, maintain confidential medical records, provide safety education, and collaborate with partners to ensure regulatory compliance
Duties

• Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
• Perform radiographic imaging procedures and conduct laboratory and diagnostic tests; accurately document and report results.
• Collaborate with safety officers, HR, and leadership to support OSHA compliance and injury prevention.
• Conduct DOT (Directly Observed Therapy), pre-placement, fit-for-duty, return-to-work, and annual physical exams.
• Coordinate case management and follow-up care for injured or ill employees.
• Coordinate with offsite medical contacts and healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
• Educate employees on safe work practices, ergonomics, and healthy lifestyle choices.
• Evaluate and manage work-related injuries and exposures using evidence-based practice.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records.
• Perform health surveillance, screenings, and health promotion (e.g., audiometry, spirometry, vaccinations).
• For supervisory positions, you will perform a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees.

QUALIFICATIONS
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-11, you must have:
• One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level:
• Providing comprehensive occupational health nursing services (e.g. identifying health hazards, preventing workplace injuries, optimizing employee wellness, etc.); AND
• Performing, documenting, and/or coordinating occupational medical surveillance.
OR
• Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field;
OR
• Possess at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program
To qualify for GS-12, you must have:
• One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:
• Performing comprehensive occupational medical evaluations and exercising advanced-practice clinical judgement;
• Interpreting and/or applying complex occupational medical standards and regulatory requirements; AND
• Serving as a technical advisor to management on occupational health matters
To qualify for GS-13, you must have:
• One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
• Performing comprehensive occupational medical evaluations and/or exercising advanced-practice clinical judgment;
• Providing oversight on complex occupational medical standards and regulatory requirements; AND
• Serving as subject matter expert to management on occupational health matters.
Promotion Potential
The full performance level (FPL) will vary based on the position in which the selectee is placed and does not default to the highest grade advertised

EDUCATION
Basic Requirement:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School : Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Probationary Period
You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. If selected, the requirement to serve such period will be determined by Title 5 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 11.
In determining if your employment advances the public interest, we may consider:
• your performance and conduct;
• the needs and interests of the agency;
• whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and
• whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
Supervisory probationary periods are not subject to the process outlined above. However, if you are also required to complete a standard probationary period, you will be subject to the requirements and conditions of both the standard and supervisory probationary periods.
